Somerville High School Winter Guard made their debut at WGI in 2012 and achieved a remarkable feat by winning gold in the Scholastic A class with a score of 97.15.
Their show, titled "Broken, Rise, Empowered," showcased broken table props, a silent gun feature, and left the audience in awe with a standing ovation. This memorable performance marked a significant milestone for Somerville High School Winter Guard, highlighting their talent and dedication to the art of color guard.
In 2014, Somerville High School Winter Guard achieved a remarkable top 5 finish at WGI Open Class Finals. Their captivating show, titled 'Eternal Ruins' culminated in an impressive score of 91.75. This achievement solidified Somerville's place among the elite in the competitive world of winter guard.
In 2015, three years after their first WGI World Championship Win, Somerville High School Winter Guard secured their second WGI World Championship title in the Scholastic Open Class. Their winning performance, titled "Unexpected Elevations," received a score of 95.5. Their exceptional execution and unique artistic choices set them apart, leading to a well-deserved triumph on the world stage.
Somerville High School Winter Guard was chosen as a participant in the documentary "Contemporary Color," curated by David Byrne. This prestigious opportunity was extended to only a 10 groups across the nation, with performances taking place in both Canada and New York. The documentary showcased a unique collaboration between live musicians and the Marching Arts. The documentary was showcased in 2017 at various independent film festivals.
